Learn how to make an inexpensive homemade rosemary sugar scrub with coconut oil and turbinado sugar that will leave your skin feeling amazing.
Have you ever made a homemade scrub? They’re incredibly easy to make and much less expensive than the stuff you buy in stores. This rosemary sugar scrub is one of my favorites.
When I first started making scrubs, I used olive oil.  But after trial and error, I have to say that coconut oil is one of the best body moisturizers I’ve ever used.  I keep two jars at home; one in the kitchen and one in the medicine cabinet.  It absorbs right into my skin with no oily residue (I sound like such a commercial, but it’s true).  Regular sugar can be substituted for the turbinado if you have very sensitive skin.  I prefer raw turbinado sugar because it has the most texture for exfoliating and makes my skin feel amazing.  And I’m starting to see forum discussions about  anti-aging properties in sugar but I have no idea if they’re scientifically accurate.  With regards to fragrance, any essential oil will work.  My favorites have always been eucalyptus and rosemary because I find them refreshing and invigorating.  But you could go with rose, lavender, even vanilla… whatever you fancy. Enjoy this rosemary sugar scrub!
Rosemary Sugar Scrub
Total Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup turbinado sugar
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 4-10 drops rosemary oil, or essential oil of your choice
Instructions
- Measure the sugar into a mixing bowl.
- Melt coconut oil for 15-30 seconds to liquify it.
- Stir the oil into the sugar.
- Stir in essential oil.
- Store in the shower. Heat from the shower will keep the oil liquified during use.

Thanks for the tips about coconut oil too. I have been seeing so much about it, but have been a little hesitant to try it. Your post encourages me to give it a go!

I’ve thought about trying this.. and here you are! Love this idea and you should definitely post more of these. Technically it is food and I’m sure it’s absorbed somehow;) So, yes, please blog more scrubs, etc, I’d love to try them. Where do you recommend getting the essential oils, is there a website you like?? xo Smidge

I just buy them locally. Whole Foods carries them, among other places.

I tried a body scrub once and stopped using it because it made my shower floor so oily. Do these scrubs need oil?
Savory Simple says
I wait to use shampoo until after I use the scrub. That usually takes care of oil on the floor.

What a fun idea. Rosemary is one of my favourite fragrances too – my girlfriend would love something like this. Coconut oil is used in so many things like this – I always had the impression it was well used in body products.

Savory Simple says
I can find everything at the local grocer, usually. Whole Foods also carries essential oils.

I love this and yes, please do post more homemade cosmetic and body recipes. Your recipe sounds so easy that even I would try it! I have to agree about the use of peppermint oil…been there and done that…kinda weird.
