My Favorite Guacamole + How To Keep It Fresh

Learn how to make perfect guacamole that will stay fresh and bright green for days! Guacamole is one of my absolute favorite snacks.  For quite some time now, I’ve been wanting to get back to basics. I’m always hesitant… does the internet really need another guacamole recipe? Of course not. However, while this site is full of more unique recipe combinations I’ve pulled together over the years, I’d like to widen my selection of kitchen staples as well as basic tutorials and guides.

All-Purpose Tomato Sauce

This all-purpose tomato sauce is perfect for pasta, on pizza, or as a base for other sauces and stews.  Free time is in short supply these days. It always seems like there’s so much to do and little to no spare time for any of us. “I don’t have enough time for that,” is what most people says when they see my recipes. I get it. Not everyone enjoys spending time in the kitchen like I do, and even if they want to,

Old Bay Deviled Eggs

Old Bay Deviled Eggs are an easy, flavorful appetizer that’s ready in under 30 minutes. They’re low carb & gluten-free! One of the many things that drove me crazy about culinary school was that there was always only one right way to do things. If you deviated from this method, you were wrong and would likely be reprimanded. I first started giving my chefs the side-eye when my Phase I instructor was teaching us how to achieve “perfect hard boiled eggs

Grilled Oysters with Chipotle-Tarragon Butter and Gremolata + My Visit to The Melrose Georgetown Hotel and Jardenea

Grilled Oysters with Chipotle Tarragon Butter and Gremolata are a fun and flavorful summer treat! I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of really fun, cool things since I began my food blog but there hasn’t been a ton of travel blogging. It’s an idea I’ve thought about on and off over the years because traveling is my other big obsession after food. If I could afford to travel more often, I definitely would. But it has been difficult since changing career

Roasted Radishes with Brown Butter and Parsley + a First We Eat Recap

Roasted Radishes with Brown Butter and Parsley – a simple, low carb, vegetarian side dish that’s incredibly flavorful and easy to prepare! I’ve learned a lot about food photography in the past few months. I’ve attended two separate workshops on opposite sides of the country and worked with some incredibly talented people. I’ve made wonderful new friends. And I feel like I’m finally ready to do something I have procrastinated for the longest time: upgrading my camera equipment. But before getting into

Lemon-Herb Slow Cooker Whole Chicken

Lemon-Herb Slow Cooker Whole Chicken is an easy “set it and forget it” meal. A few minutes of prep time is all you need for a flavor-packed dinner! One of my favorite dinners is roasted chicken. As with salmon, I’m incredibly picky about how my chicken is prepared. Roasted chicken has it all- crispy skin, juicy meat, and flavorful vegetables drenched in the natural stock. However, I rarely prepare roasted chickens for dinner anymore. It’s embarrassing to admit this, but despite

Strawberry Macadamia Nut Milk

I love making nut milks from scratch. It’s not very time consuming or expensive to make and the flavor is, in my opinion, far superior to anything sold at the grocery store. There are no weird preservatives or stabilizers. It’s a nice, unprocessed drink that can be used as a base for smoothies or in place or regular milk in baked goods or coffee drinks.

Spicy Chocolate Latte

It seems like every year there’s one month where I find myself traveling to multiple work events. I’m right in the middle of that hectic time right now. I’ve been home from a visit to Seattle for just two days and in another two days I’m headed to Pennsylvania. It’s tiring but I’m enjoying catching up with old friends and acquaintances. The more I do this, the harder it is to be away. I’d always rather be at home with Jeff

Gluten-Free Four Cheese White Pizza

Earlier this year I created a grain-free paleo pizza crust for the blog and it was surprisingly successful, considering the fact that I’m not known for being a gluten-free/paleo blogger. Even though I don’t follow any specific diet, we make a real effort at home to limit refined sugars and carbohydrates. However, Jeff and I are both completely nuts for pizza. It’s a weakness. This pizza crust is a nice way to indulge periodically without all the guilt.

Cashew and Roasted Red Pepper Kale Chips

Kale chips are one of those things that people either love or hate. I’m somewhere in the middle because I love them when they’re done right. But I’ve tasted a lot of mediocre to bad kale chips over the years. I promise you- these are some of the best kale chips you’ll ever try. No joke. They’re thick, savory and crunchy. I’m kind of obsessed with them.
