This Gnocchi with Sun Dried Tomatoes, Pancetta and Roquefort Cheese is so incredibly savory and flavorful you won't be able to put down the fork!

In my mid-20s, before culinary school, I was fairly unadventurous in the kitchen. Once I came up with a good recipe I would make it over and over again until I was sick of it. One of my favorite dinners was a pasta dish made from olive oil, basil, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and parmesan. Kind of a deconstructed pesto. It was delicious. I don’t find myself making it very often these days but it did serve as the inspiration for this gnocchi recipe.  [Read more...]

Apple, Sweet Potato and Bacon Turnovers - Savory Simple

When I first began baking I thought everything needed to look perfect. Every cupcake had to be frosted evenly with a uniform peak on top. The tart dough needed to blind bake evenly. Even lines, matching shapes. Perfection was a sign of a successful recipe. But now I kind of feel the opposite. I think there’s more beauty in imperfections.

Brown Sugar Bacon Brussels Sprouts - Savory Simple - www.savorysimple.net

Brussels sprouts. We need to talk. My poor, neglected vegetable friend. Don’t listen to what others say about you sometimes. They just don’t understand what it’s like to be you. You’re unique and delicate. You should only be prepared in certain ways and sadly… there are many home cooks out there who don’t understand your special needs. People have been cooking you incorrectly for generations. [Read more...]
