This has been quite an eventful week! Taking on sponsors is a huge deal for me; it’s something I’ve wanted for quite awhile but have been fearful of at the same time. When I attended Eat, Write Retreat earlier this year we had a workshop on how to monetize your blog. It’s something almost everyone considers at some point but there’s a risk of being perceived as selling out. The workshop was lead by the hilarious and inspiring Andy Schloss of Chef Salt. This guy does it all and while listening to him I thought “if he can do it, I can do it.” I say dream big, people. This is what I want to do with my life and it starts right here.
I’ve really loved all of the comments on my Top 20 Food Blogging Tips For Beginners. I didn’t realize it would spark so much great discussion! Several commenters pointed out an important tip that I missed: BE YOURSELF. Don’t look at what other bloggers are doing or worry about how you measure up. Don’t pretend to be something you’re not. If your life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns, that’s fine. Just because we’re cooking up a storm in the kitchen doesn’t mean we can’t be funny, sad, snarky or whatever. There are so many food blogs out there right now and you’ll never reach success simply by emulating others. Find your voice and USE IT.
