Valentine's Day Recipe Roundup - @SavorySimple

I never considered Valentine’s Day to be the most romantic of holidays when I was younger.  You see, February 14th happens to be both my mother and my brother’s birthday.  Now that I’m no longer living with my parents and am, you know, married, I like to do something small to celebrate the holiday aside from calling my family.  Maybe it’s a romantic dinner for two at home, maybe we go out, maybe Jeff (cough cough) brings me some flowers.

This year we’re dining in and I’ve compiled a Valentine’s Day Recipe Roundup with over 60 options for your entire meal.  Enjoy!

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of joining some of my fellow food bloggers in Washington DC for Eat Write Retreat.  The weekend was so much fun! The event was packed with hands-on workshops, delicious food, cool swag and tons of networking opportunities.  I’ve always wanted to attend a food blogger conference and was very excited when I realized there was one right in my neck of the woods.  Eat Write Retreat was pure magic; I met many local and national bloggers (and a few international bloggers!) who I admire.  It was w0nderfully intimate, and I was able to spend some time getting to know most of the other attendees.  More importantly, it reminded me of why I began blogging in the first place and has inspired me to take my site to the next level.

I decided that both needed an upgrade. I’ve been loving the recipes in ‘CakeLove’ by Warren Brown, so I modified his delicious recipe for yellow butter cake.  The rum buttercream recipe is courtesy of me.

11/26/11 Update: See my updated version of Eggnog Cupcakes with Rum Buttercream frosting HERE

I have been addicted to eggnog recently.  Truthfully, I didn’t used to care for it all that much.  Then, a few years ago a friend turned me on to Silk Soy Nog, which I found much lighter and downright delicious when topped off with Meyer’s Dark Rum and cinnamon.  Fast forward a few years and it’s all good to me.  And not all nog is equal.  Recently I’ve been enjoying Organic Valley eggnog.  When it comes to dairy, I can absolutely taste the difference between organic and non-organic and Organic Valley eggnog is creamy, rich and decadent.  The moment I tasted it I began daydreaming of ways I could incorporate it into dessert.
