Apple Recipe Roundup - Savory Simple

Apple season has arrived! I’ve been so excited to see beautiful apples in my CSA basket the past few weeks. In the next month we’ll be setting out to enjoy one of my favorite fall activities, apple picking. I always wind up with about 20 pounds of apples and eventually run out of ideas for what to make. In order to avoid that this year I’ve collected a wide assortment of apple recipes from my website as well as from fellow food bloggers. Below the roundup you’ll find my latest giveaway, one that’s near and dear to my heart. I’m giving away a copy of my favorite kitchen reference guide, The Flavor Bible

I was recently contacted by authors Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page who let me know that they’re about to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of their acclaimed book, The Flavor Bible. I’ve gone on and on about this book since the day I began blogging 4 years ago. It’s amazing and I reference it constantly. As far as I’m concerned it’s essential to kitchen creativity. For example, let’s say you want to create a fun new dish using apples but you’re bored with all of the standard flavor combinations. Simply browse to the apple section and you’ll find an extensive list of ingredients that pair well with apples. There are also suggested flavor affinities such as apples + ginger + hazelnuts or apples + celery + walnuts. It really gets my mind going with ideas for original recipes. Karen and Andrew will be releasing a new book soon called The Vegetarian Flavor Bible and you can bet I’ll be pre-ordering.

Karen and Andrew have graciously offered to give away one copy of The Flavor Bible! Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter and make sure to check out the terms & conditions. Some important facts at a glance: the contest will run through September 22nd and I will use the rafflecopter widget to select and notify a winner. That person has 48 hours to respond before I select a new winner. The book can only be shipped to addresses in the US. You must be at least 18 years old to enter. Good luck!
